Note from our General Manager
  • Our Thrift Shop offers Saint Barnabas Episcopal Church a way to serve the community by recycling a wide range of donated articles. It also provides us with the monetary resources for significant outreach giving.
  • Our Outreach purpose: To give back to the community which supports our ministry through contributions and patronage. Each month we donate 25% of the shop's gross sales (after California state sales tax) to a local, charitable organization. We try to give to a diverse group of local charitable groups rather than to a few groups of people or needs.
  • Shop Hours:

    • Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday — 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
    • Thursdays — 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
    • Saturday — noon-4 p.m.
    • The shop is closed on Sundays and Mondays.

Thrift Shop History

In January, 1974, the Rev. Dan McHugh led a group of parishioners in gathering clothing for the community's needy citizens. Items were given or sold for a small fee from the basement of our church one day each week. This small operation grew into a thriving enterprise at a small, rented shop open 5 days a week. We moved to our present location at 114 Brisco Road in Arroyo Grande in October, 1975. The shop was eventually purchased by the church and remains open several days a week, staffed completely by volunteers.

Saint Barnabas Thrift Shop provides a valuable service to the community in many ways. It is staffed entirely by volunteers and provides clean, usable clothing and other items to a large segment of our community. It provides the funds enabling us to contribute to twelve different local community Outreach concerns such as Hospice, the Christian Women's Food Bank, and the Women's Shelter. The Thrift Shop also funds special Saint Barnabas Church projects and contributes to our church operating fund.
